The Cisco 1801, 1802, 1803, 1811, and 1812 routers are fixed configuration, while the Cisco 1841 is modular. Powered by Cisco IOS software , the Cisco 1800 Series router supports the Cisco Self-Defending Network with advanced security services and management capabilities such as hardware encryption acceleration, IPSec VPN (AES, 3DES, DES), firewall protection, inline intrusion prevention (IPS), Network Admission Control (NAC), and URL filtering support. For ease of management and configuration, the Cisco 1800 Series ship with the intuitive, web-based Cisco Router and Security Device Manager (SDM) pre-installed.

The Cisco 1841 router provides significant additional value compared to the Cisco 1720 and 1721 routers by offering more than a fivefold performance increase, and a new architecture for delivering secure, concurrent services. A wide range of connectivity options is provided with AIM, new high-speed WAN-interface-card (HWIC), and VWIC modularity, as well as investment protection through the support of more than 30 existing 1700 Series WAN interface cards (WIC/VIC/VWIC data mode only). The Cisco 1811 and 1812 provide high-speed broadband and Ethernet access through two 10/100BaseT WAN ports and also provide integrated WAN backup through V.92 analog modem (Cisco 1811) or ISDN S/T BRI interface (Cisco1812). |
